THE DIVISION OF WOMEN

The Women's Ministry (formerly,Division of Women, formerly the Woman's Baptist District Missionary Convention),is the oldest of the Allied Bodies. It was organized in 1892 at the Union Shiloh Baptist Church, in Middlesex County. The Reverend Norvell A. Wiggins, the host pastor, was instrumental in the organizing process. Mrs. Julia Hall, who was a member of the First Baptist Church, Tappahannock at the time, was elected as the first president. According to early records it chief objective was to:"Awaken greater religious interest among our people as far as possible, and to promote education, morality and prosperity."
